Leica x AltStudio : Leica M EV1 Launch
Through Change and Continuity
Ahead of the global launch of the Leica M EV1 rangefinder camera, AltStudio collaborated with Leica Camera Malaysia to produce two interlinked photographic projects in the UNESCO World Heritage city of George Town, Penang.
Sanjit and Suzanne took the Leica M EV1 through its paces, creating distinct yet connected visual narratives that explore the evolving relationship between people, place, and heritage.

The series explores the layered narratives of a city in flux, where heritage meets modernity, and memory negotiates with transformation.
Sanjit’s photographs examine the human dimensions of gentrification - how old trades, spaces, and lives adapt to the pressure of change. His lens observes the subtle rewriting of familiar streets, revealing both loss and resilience in the process of renewal.
Suzanne’s images, in contrast, dwell in stillness and silence. Her work traces the fragile remains of what has been left behind - rooms emptied of presence, facades marked by time, and spaces that hold memory in their decay.
Together, their photographs form a dialogue between persistence and disappearance, progress and preservation - a meditation on how cities evolve and what endures within them.
Presented alongside two short reels produced by AltStudio, this collaboration highlights Leica’s commitment to craftsmanship, storytelling, and the enduring art of seeing differently.

In conjunction with the campaign, AltStudio also produced two short reels (under 60 seconds each), capturing the spirit of the creative process and the city that inspired it. The films, shot and edited in-house, were released as part of the highly anticipated Leica M EV1 launch, and are currently featured alongside the print exhibition at the Leica Gallery, Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur.

Suzanne’s project, “Between Desertion and Persistence”, observes the quiet shifts in the city’s architectural and emotional landscape, where time, memory, and loss intertwine.
Sanjit’s companion series, “Through Change and Continuity”, focuses on the human layers of transformation, exploring themes of gentrification and resilience within the same spaces.
